This recording is the 3rd in the series titled “The New England Anthology,” which the host describes to be a show about “expression in poetry of the American concept of the new man by writers who make use of The New England Scene, background or heritage.” This recording precedes the official establishment MFA by nine years and provides insight in to the culture that allowed for its creation. In the recording, poems are used to illustrate arguments and philosophies. Both poems and philosophy are discussed. The introduction contains a discussion of Imaginative freedom vs. political freedom and the existence of “a life apart from politics.” (WS)
